Typing!!

I'm including some links below to help get your students acclimated to typing.  Since Wonders has a strong emphasis on writing as well as a long response on the weekly assessment, it will be a great way for your student to increase in their typing skills and speed.  Below are some links to help you get started, best of all, they're FREE!!!

The Week Ahead

Be sure to check out the Wonders website.  Your student's log in information is on page 2 of their agenda books.  Please encourage them to complete the vocabulary workshops and online reading.

This week we will be completing a book study on the novel/chapter book Punished!.  It's a great read and highlights the various forms of figurative language such as similes, metaphors and onomatopoeia.  We will be using this book as an additional enrichment tool of the skills and strategies we've learned from the past few weeks of Wonders.  After completing this book study, students will be able to take an AR quiz to earn points. Aside from reading in class, please encourage your student to read at least 45 minutes a day outside of school.  A great way to ensure that your child is comprehending what they are reading is to ask questions or have them write a summary/review of their book.  This will make sure that they are not just passively reading and will also double as an additional opportunity for them to practice writing.

Our first field trip is approaching and will be on October 2nd.  Permission slips will go home on Monday.  Letters have been placed in your student's agenda book.  If a student loses all their letters (i.e.; behavior, no homework, etc), they will not be permitted to participate/go on the field trip. If you plan on being a chaperone for a field trip or volunteer in class please fill out the volunteer form: https://volunteers.leonschools.net/Volunteers/

Look for vocabulary quizzes coming home this week.

Have a great week owls!!

Extra Practice/Purple dot

If your student has a purple dot in their agenda book, I have sent home an additional sheet for practice. They would need to make flashcards and practice often (daily) in order to become more fluent and stronger readers.

Welcome!

Welcome to the 2014/2015 school year.  I hope you all were not overwhelmed by all the information that was discussed at orientation.  It was good to see so many of you in attendance and supportive of your student's education.  As I stated, this is a big year.  We're grooming students to be responsible, organized and independent.  Please be sure to sign up to receive updates via Remind101 (instructions are on the yellow flyer in your packet).  Also, don't forget to review the welcome contract, this will give you an overview of our class structure.  Have a restful weekend and see you bright and early on Monday morning!!!
